In the second quarter of 2025, we strengthened our position at the intersection of digital identity, AI, and blockchain technology. From launching Python support and OAuth-based authentication to sponsoring innovative hackathon projects, we've continued to build the infrastructure that developers need for secure, seamless identity solutions. This quarter also saw us deepen our thought leadership through our podcast, expand our media presence, and engage with communities spanning security, Web3, AI, and identity domains.

New Civic Auth product features

In Q2 2025, we enhanced our developer toolkit with Python support, enabling seamless integration of Civic Auth features into Python-based projects, perfect for automated identity checks and backend workflows. We also released Account Linking, a streamlined and secure way to connect email addresses to Civic Auth user accounts, simplifying onboarding and strengthening contact verification flows. These updates reflect our commitment to delivering developer-friendly tools for real-world application needs.

On the security front, we launched OAuth‑based authentication for remote MCP servers. Our library enables developers to secure their MCP servers without getting bogged down in complex authentication protocols.

Hackathon highlights: Civic Auth champions across chains

Civic sponsored bounties at several hackathons this quarter to reward the best integrations of Civic Auth. We’re proud of the winners who showed real promise with their innovative builds.

  • In Solana-focused hackathons, our winners from the Helius [REDACTED] hackathon enabled password-less Civic sign-ins across dApps, wallets, and games, as spotlighted in our winner’s recap
  • At the Superteam Earn Breakout Hackathon, Astrotrader took first place. The project is a sci-fi Solana trading game, where you can buy and sell planets and unlock special ships with NFTs. The project was highlighted in our winner’s announcement.
  • In the XDC RWAi hackathon, our winners integrated Civic Auth into XDC projects, splitting a $1,500 prize pool and demonstrating how on-chain KYC can be both secure and seamless.
  • At the DoraHacks hackathon, the winning team, SplitNPay, integrated Civic Auth into a project that allows group payments on Solana, so that users can create payment requests, split bills, and track payments transparently and securely.
  • Momentum continued across regional and Ethereum-based events. We educated builders at the Solana Startup Village for Superteam Balkans. And at Eth Belgrade and Eth Cluj, Civic spoke and joined panels to help Ethereum devs build solid foundations with proven approaches and expertise.
  • Finally, at Hack4Bengal, Civic awarded several prizes to inspired projects.

We’re continuing to see a lot of Civic Auth adoption among builders, as evidenced across the many hackathons we supported in the second quarter.

Our podcast: Conversations at the edge of digital identity

This quarter on Identity Unleashed, we sat down with boundary-pushers reshaping what identity means in the era of AI agents, sovereign protocols, and evolving global standards. From Consultant Pavol Hrina’s deep dive into Europe’s proposed digital wallet to Forbes Contributor Damodar Selvam’s reflections on the shifting role of blockchain in identity systems, each guest brought a unique lens on how compliance, privacy, and control are being redefined across markets and ecosystems.

The quarter kicked off with Stats Boujoukha, CEO of Compile, sharing how to engineer compliance at startup speed, a conversation that resonated with builders navigating complex regulatory terrain. Later, Dr. Cory Petty from Logos unpacked the philosophical and technical foundations of identity sovereignty in decentralized protocols, while Steven Ajai of Hacken challenged listeners to consider the ethical tradeoffs in agentic AI. Across these conversations, a clear theme emerged: the future of identity is fast, fluid, and increasingly agent-driven.

Civic in the news

Civic captured widespread media attention in Q2 as its leadership digital identity products became a defining story across top blockchain publications. Several articles spotlighted Civic’s collaboration with the Solana Attestation Service (SAS), with coverage from Blockworks, Biometric Update, BeInCrypto, and Tekedia exploring Civic’s role in building permissioning infrastructure and enabling interoperability across the Solana ecosystem.

Our work on reusable credentials and zero-trust frameworks for AI agents was also featured prominently, reflecting growing recognition of identity’s foundational role in the future of finance and artificial intelligence.

Engaging with our communities

In Q2, Civic showed up across four key domains:Security, Web3, AI, and Identity, amplifying our leadership at the intersection of trust and emerging tech.

  • At major security conferences like RSA and Identiverse, Civic leaders connected with collaborators facing identity issues around Multi-Party Computation (MCP) and evolving security needs related to authentication.
  • We stayed deeply engaged with the Solana and Ethereum communities, joining flagship events like Solana Crossroads, Solana Accelerate, Solana APEX, ETHCluj, DappCon, and ETHCC, where Civic Auth integrations and permissioning infrastructure took center stage.
  • Our growing presence in the AI space included presence at the AI Agent Builders Summit, AI DevSummit, AI & Big Data Expo, and the Databricks Data + AI Summit, highlighting Civic’s vision for identity in the age of intelligent agents.
  • And in the identity arena, our CTO, Dan Kelleher, represented Civic at the EUID & Cloud Conference, reinforcing our commitment to standards-aligned, privacy-preserving digital credentials across borders.

What’s next?

Looking ahead to Q3 and beyond, we're focused on completing our comprehensive authentication suite with exciting new features that will further streamline developer workflows.

Our roadmap includes groundbreaking products specifically designed for the emerging AI agent ecosystem, positioning Civic at the forefront of identity solutions for autonomous systems. We're also doubling down on our commitment to the developer community, with expanded hackathon sponsorships and educational initiatives planned throughout the remainder of 2025.
